Stars showcase team opens season at UNC-Pembroke
The 2006 Fall 18u Stars Showcase team began play this weekend at the UNCP College Prospect Showcase Tournament this past weekend. The team is coached by Mike Girouard, Pete Lloyd and John Moore. The Stars defeated the Canes green team by a score of 10-5 and the Potomac Virginia team by a score of 9-4. They lost to a great Charlottee Express team that had 5 Division one signed players by a score of 8-4 and they got beat by the Carolina Hurricanes on the strength of a great game pitched against them by Mac Reed of Lumberton a signee at Davidson College. The Stars got great pitching from Matt Parsells (W Guilford), Matt Watson (Wilson Hunt), Kyle Harmon (Princeton), Brandon Roberts (S Johnston), Chad Womble (Rocky Mount), Evan Daniel (Southeast Raleigh) and Tarron Robinson (Chapel Hill). The leading hitters were Brain Allen (Southern Nash), Joe Toler, Bradley Taylor, and Will Edgerton (CB Aycock), and Andrew Webb (Northern Nash). Daniel Moore (Northern Nash), Chase Surles (Harnett Central), Edmund Gravely (Rocky Mount Academy), Alex Pearce (Nash Central), and Justin Blue (Roanoke Rapids) all contributed in the wins................OLD NEWS: The 2005 18u Stars are 10-8 this fall playing mostly showcase type teams. Once again the head coach is Mike Thomas. Welcome to the new players that played in High Point this past weekend Jerrod Moore from Person County, Michael Robbins from So Granville and Bryan Collins from Union Pines also Jeremiah Feilen from So Nash and Spencer Godfrey from Albemarle will be joining us at ECU/Pitt this weekend. Current players are Brandon Shannonhouse, Justin Shannonhouse, Troy Tomasino, Andrew Webb, Zach Woodley, Daniel Moore, Jon Moore, Bobby Benson, Marc Sarmiento, Bryan Braswell, David Wittman, Tyler Clark, Brent Fisher, Adam Hodges, Edmund Gravely, Chad Carpenter, Alex Pearce, Zach Furl, John Hunt, Mitch McLaird, Tanner Eason and Taylor Thomas.... The 2004 18u Stars hit the field last fall compiling a 15-8 record under head coach Mike Thomas. The original team consisted of from Nash Central: Taylor Thomas, Brandon Baugham, Chad Carpenter and Daryl High, from RMA John Stilley and Alex Warren, from Lee County Zach Furl and from Northern Nash: Jeffrey Matthews, Zach Woodley, Bryan Braswell, Daniel Moore and Marc Sarmiento...........The Stretchlon 15u Stars was a team coached by Richard Sarmiento and Marc Hunt. Currently the boys on the team are busy playing for their High School teams and they are all doing great. The team players were Marc Sarmiento, John Hunt, Jonathan Tyndall, Chad Carpenter, Brandon Wells, Bryan Braswell, Brandon Shannonhouse, Tanner Eason, Lee Hawkins, Matt Brown, Zach Johnson, Athan Parker and Jerry Sands. The team finished 3rd in the Nation at the Disney Tournament in 2001. Marc Sarmiento led his RMSH JV team to the Easter Tournament Championship tossing a complete game 5-2 victory over arch rival Northern Nash. UPDATE: Marc has joined the Northern Nash Junior Legion team as he will be transferring to NNash this school year and on Sunday Marc in his first ever start for NNash tossed a 6 hitter in a complete game 4-2 win over defending state champs Snow Hill. Congratulations to Lee Hawkins for helping his Southwest team reach the 2A championship game.
